Rowan students discovered if ‘love bites,’ as they enjoyed a 5-course meal on February 13th in the Owls Nest of the Chamberlin Student Center. Tony Salzarulo, winner of the Battle of The Chefs competition at Rowan cooked up the 5-course meal.
Students indulged in an appetizer, soup or salad, choice of 3 entrees and cannoli cream & chocolate mousse for dessert.
Zack Dodrill, a Freshman Political Science major enjoyed what he called a “good atmosphere” with his girlfriend, “The portions were smaller, but for $10 you get a little bit of everything,” said Dodrill.
Brittany Bird, a sophomore Biology major came with her roommates, “I wanted to spend time with my girls,” said Bird. The ladies ditched their boyfriends just for the night, “We are roommate bonding,” said Morgan Litzas, a sophomore RTF and PR major.
Samantha Bongiovanni and a bunch of her girl friends had the same idea, “Going out to eat as a group is hard because no one has money,” admitted Bongiovanni, a junior Anthropology major, “So this was good because they take ‘Boro Bucks.’
While some enjoyed their time out as friends, others got in the true Valentines Day spirit. Jessica Small, a Grad Student wanted to take her friend Jeremy out on a date, “It seemed like a nice event,” said Small. “She was hounding me,” chuckled Jeremy Einbinder, a Junior RTF major.
Leah Fahber enjoyed the Cabernet Braised Beef, “it was the bomb,” said Fahber, a senior Math and Education major.
“I came up with a dessert that they could feed each other, in case they were on a romantic date,” said Salzarulo, “it’s all about the ambiance and the atmosphere.”
Chef Salzarulo’s ambiance seemed to please the crowd, “this was totally worth the $10, I would definitely come again,” said Fahber’s date, Richard Baddistella.
On top of that fantastic feast, students received a rose and a professional photo in a custom frame, a total package for the evening worth $40.
Stephanie Dachillo organized the first Love Bites Dinner, “We are going to try and make this an annual event, I think the students liked it,” said Dachillo with a smile.
